Faculty of Marine Science

Fields: Marine as source of food supply in proportions to a rapid increase of in global population, Safety and protection of global environment, Symbiosis relations with ma-rine organisms. The faculty of Marine science consists of four departments and the ob-jective is to investigate various problems in the fields from points of view of fisheries, agriculture, science, engineering and social science. Each department maintains a course called Teacher Training Course for Fisheries High School Education in it.

1) Department of Ocean Sciences

Specializations:
- Marine Biology,
- Marine Environmental Chemistry,
- Physics and Environmental Modeling,
- Ocean Environmental Technology.

The education of the Department is based on the oceanography and ocean environ-mental technology. The Department offers students with the subjects to observe, ana-lyze and predict the various oceanic phenomena expanding to safety and protection of global environment with scientific technology. The subjects are history and ecosystem of marine organisms, symbiosis of marine organisms and the environment, continuous effective usage of marine resources, balanced marine product system between marine and land, physical circulation, problem of pollutant, reciprocal action between shore and offshore, reciprocal relation between air and ocean and weather routing. The objective of the Department is to educate students investigating ocean science with synthetic con-ception of biology, chemistry, physical analysis and technology.

2) Department of Marine Biosciences

Specializations:
- Fisheries Biology,
- Aquaculture.

The Department is composed of two professional fields of study on organisms as marine resource investigating the way of increasing aquaculture of marine organisms and its preservation and on proper productive marine organisms and the rational resource management system. Its curriculum comprises the subjects on various causes such as marine organisms' propagation physiology, nutritive metabolism, mechanism of anti-disease and other subjects on movement of resources as individual movement of shoal, mass heredity system, habitable environment, growth and survival, migration, fisheries production to educate students. The Department aims at making graduates become professionals in the fields of farming fisheries with environmental protection, resource renovation and preservation, fisheries production, resource management and prevention epidemics.

3) Department of Food Science and Technology

Specializations:
- Food Science,
- Food Technology.

The education of the Department is based on the two learning, one is of food function preservation and the other is of food quality design through fundamental education about chemistry, microbiology, physics and technology. Nowadays fisheries foods have become more significant as worldwide food resource and health food as well. The De-partment offers students with food science and technology on the subjects of fisheries foods as source of food supply in proportions to a rapid increase of in global population and safety and protection of global environment.

4) Department of Marine Policy and Culture

Specializations:
- Marine Policy and International Culture,
- Marine Utilization and Management,
- Distribution and Marketing.

The objective of the Department is to educate students in terms of the development of worldwide marine industries and marine culture. Its curriculums comprises the sub-jects by means of adequate propose and practice of improving international problems of marine policies and creating more effective marine usage and management aiming at symbiotic relation between marine organisms and animals and plants.

5) Teacher Training Course for Fisheries High School Education

The objective of this course is to educate and train students to obtain teacher's certifi-cate of fisheries at high schools in Japan within the undergraduate school programs. Admission capacity of the course is up to ten undergraduate students of which are three students from Department of Ocean Sciences, three from Department of Marine Biosciences and three from Department of Food Science and Technology and the one remaining student from Department of Marine Policy and Culture. The course of-fers the students some required subjects for the certificate. It is possible for graduates of the course to choose the future course of teaching or other occupations.
