First report of Red sea bream iridovirus (RSIV) genotype I and II recombinant strain in Japan

Red sea bream iridovirus (RSIV) will be30It is known to infect more than 100 species of marine fish, and serious fish disease damage has been reported in farmed fish such as red sea bream and yellowtail.RSIV The2It is classified into two genotypes, namely, type I and type II. In Japan, infections caused by type II are the main cause, but in other Asian countries, type I and intermediate types with genetic sequences similar to both types I and II have also been reported.
The 2024 imported amberjack seedlings have a genotype that is believed to be unidentified in Japan.RSIVThis study performed a whole genome analysis and phylogenetic analysis of this virus. The whole genome sequence analysis revealed that this virus is a type I and type II virus.RSIVIt has similar gene regions in its genome and is phylogenetically intermediate.RSIVIn addition, a gene in this virus isRSIVIt was also revealed that the virus has a high degree of homology with genes from other viruses.RSIVWe will continue to monitor the emergence of viruses related to this virus.
