ABOUTAbout School of Marine Resources and Environment

For sustainable development, Japan must make effective use of the resources and energy latent in the sea that surrounds the country. To do that, we need to create and nurture new industries. On the other hand, we have learned from our experience that it is necessary to pay close attention to environmental conservation when using resources and energy.
Founded in 2017 in response to such social demands, our Faculty has two departments (Department of Marine Environmental Science and Department of Marine Resources and Energy) that focus on basic/comprehensive understanding of the ocean and utilization and development of the ocean.・We are engaged in education and research related to conservation. We will contribute to the sustainable development of our country and the world by nurturing people with scientific knowledge and technology related to the environment, resources and energy.

MESSAGEGreetings from the Dean

Would you like to become a specialist in marine resource development and environmental conservation?

Yoshinori Miyamoto
Dean, Faculty of Marine Resources and Environment, Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology
Based on a comprehensive understanding of marine science and marine biology from the surface of the sea and the atmosphere that covers it, to the seafloor and below the seafloor, the Faculty of Marine Resources and Environment studies the utilization of renewable energy and seafloor resources, as well as the conservation and restoration of the marine environment. It consists of the Department of Marine Environmental Science and the Department of Marine Resources and Energy, which educates and researches fields such as.
In this faculty, we are promoting education and research on compatibility between marine environment conservation and marine resource utilization, and marine environmental conservation and exploration, development, and utilization of resources and energy. In addition, we emphasize on-the-job training, safety education, experiments, and practical training to be active at sea sites.Through these distinctive education and research, we aim to develop human resources who can contribute to the realization of a "new maritime nation" by harmonizing the peaceful and active development and use of the sea with environmental conservation, and who can also play an active role on the international stage. going. In addition, we will put into practice one of the SDGs, “Conserve and sustainably use the oceans and marine resources for sustainable development.” It features an integrated, practical curriculum with a “guarantee”.
We are waiting for you who aim to become marine specialists by studying and researching together at the Faculty of Marine Resources and Environment, which is challenging global issues and working on advanced research.
