A research project submitted by Professor Motohiko Sano (Department of Marine Bioresource Sciences) of our university has been approved by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST).JSTWe have been selected for the "Sakura Science Program (Science and Technology Training Course)" implemented by [organization name]. In this training program, we will invite undergraduate and graduate students from Diponegoro University in Indonesia and the University of the Philippines Visayas in the Philippines.2026Years11Month10from the day11Month19It is scheduled to be implemented during the period until [date].

In recent years, the aquaculture industry has continued to grow rapidly globally as a food production sector. However, with the expansion of international trade in live fish and other marine products, the risk of diseases spreading across national borders is increasing. To address this, strengthening disease control systems in exporting countries is essential, and this requires advancements in diagnostic technologies, such as pathogen detection, which form the basis of such systems.

In order to address these challenges and with a view to strengthening future disease control systems in Indonesia and the Philippines, this selected program will invite outstanding students from both universities, with which our university has concluded exchange agreements and has a history of active exchange, to receive training in testing techniques and scientific knowledge related to viral diseases of fish and shellfish.

This initiative is based on the accumulated international collaborations at our university to date.2019year,2024Our project was selected for this program during the fiscal year, and we conducted training on fish disease diagnosis.2024~2025In the fiscal year,NEXUSSelected for the Young Talent Exchange Program, including the University of the Philippines Visayas.4Countries4We invited faculty and researchers from universities to conduct international collaborative research. This selection is positioned as a development of this series of educational and research activities.

Our university will continue to contribute to the sustainable use of fisheries resources and the resolution of international challenges through international collaborative research and the development of highly specialized personnel.
