Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology's Plastic Smart Action

Marine plastic litter (marine plastic litter) is now attracting attention around the world as one of the major marine pollutions. It is said that 800 million pieces of plastic flow into the sea from land every year, and it is estimated that by 2050, the amount of plastic waste in the sea will exceed the amount of fish in the sea.
Marine plastic waste hinders ship navigation and fishing operations in the ocean, and is washed ashore to destroy the living environment and tourism resources.
By clarifying the actual state of marine plastic waste based on scientific research and making it widely known to everyone, we can reduce the amount of plastic that flows into the ocean. It is necessary to understand and work on alternative materials.
Plastics Smart is a campaign launched by the Ministry of the Environment in the first year of Reiwa so that a wide range of entities, including individuals, local governments, NGOs, companies, and research institutes, can work together to promote solutions to the problem of marine plastic litter. In 3 (as of July), the number of registered cases of the campaign (cases of plasma action initiatives) has exceeded 7, and is still expanding.
At our university, we will post the Plastics Smart logo on relevant web pages, etc., in order to convey to everyone our efforts related to marine plastic litter in an easy-to-understand manner.
In the future, we will continue to work on research and research on marine plastic waste and plastic waste reduction.

We plan to distribute leaflets to support quitting smoking at times such as training for newly hired faculty members and orientation for new students. Please contact us if you would like to distribute them individually.
