The basic policy of the joint degree program of Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology

Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology has just established the basic policy of the joint degree program with foreign universities to promote international education and research. We will establish the joint degree program with foreign universities actively based on the basic policy.

The basic policy of the joint degree program of Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology

Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology has just established the basic policy below of the joint degree program with foreign universities to promote international education and research. Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology and each counterpart shall conclude the joint degree program agreement along with the basic policy to run the program.。

1. Definition of the program

The joint degree program is a program in which a student belongs to Master's Courses or Doctoral Courses of both of Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology, and the counterpart, as well as both universities jointly educate and instruct the student for his research so that he/she can take the degree(s). The "degree(s)" called here shall be granted for certain completed education programs using a credit transfer system, etc. and mean any of: (1) The degrees granted from both universities respectively (double degrees) (2) The degree under the names of Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology and the counterpart (joint degree) (3) The degree from one of the universities and the "certificate" from the other, proving the completion of the joint degree program.

2. The position of the students

A student joining the joint degree program shall be the regular student of Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology and the counterpart. However, (3) of 1 is not always the case.

3. The joint degree program agreement

3.1 To implement the joint degree program, a joint degree program agreement shall be concluded per each program to prescribe the specific content.

3.2 The joint degree program agreement can be concluded with the university who have signed the student exchange agreement with Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology, and have similar policy and procedures for the graduate school as those of Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology.

3.3 As a rule, the joint degree program agreement shall include information such as requirements of the students to participate for the program, credit certification, judgment process to confer the degree(s) and the standard, and the method to collect the admission and tuition fees.

3.4 The joint degree program agreement must have to be approved by the conference of representatives and the education and research council.

4. Expiration of the registration

As a rule, a student to join the joint degree program shall complete the required procedure within a year after he/she enrolled in the regular course of either university.

5. Valid Period

As a rule, a student joining the joint degree program has to stay in each university for at least one academic year (the education period corresponding a year set by the university)

6. Instruction system

The academic supervisor shall be appointed for the joint degree program in each university and the supervisors from both universities shall collaboratively instruct the students.

7. Cancel

If a student cancel the joint degree program, the student must apply for the cancel of the joint degree program to each university.
