On-board events on Umitaka-Maru at her port call to Hobart, Australia (2018/1/22-24)

From January 22th to 24th, some international events, such as an on-board reception and international seminar, were held on Umitaka-Maru, taking the occasion of her port call to Hobart, Ausutralia.

On 22th, a reception was held inviting Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Kate Warner, AC, Governor of Tasmania and Mr. Richard Warner, and about 30 guests including participants from Government of Tasmania, City of Hobart, and Australian research institutions, such as Australian Antarctic Division (AAD), Antarctic Climate & Ecosystems Cooperative Research Centre (ACE-CRC), and others. The participants from TUMSAT side were Prof. Kanda, Vice President (for Research and University Reform), and Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Kitade, Assoc. Prof., Moteki, and Assis. Prof. Mizobata, Department of Ocean Sciences and other faculty members, in addition to the officers of Umitaka-Maru.

With the clear sky and the calm sea, the participants enjoyed their interaction in a relaxing atmosphere. It was held in return of the reception which was held at the Government House at the last call to Hobart, where the officers of Umitaka-Maru and researchers of TUMSAT were invited.

On 23th, the "Umitaka-Maru Seminar" was held on Umitaka-Maru by research teams from Japan and Australia. Japanese team includes members from TUMSAT and NIPR (National Institute of Polar Research). The participants confirmed the results of continued research collaboration and discussed the further development of their collaboration.

On 24th, Dr. Kawaguchi, Australian Antarctic Division (AAD), who is an expert of zooplankton, visited Dr. Moteki at Umitaka-Maru, and they had a meeting to implement their joint research. (*)
Tour of Umitaka-Maru and BBQ Reception was also held on 24th. It was its 9th time holding the event, and about 70 people, the largest number ever, participated the tour. BBQ Reception, which has been an important opportunity to interact with local residents hosted by TUMSAT and Australia-Japan Society (Tasmania) (AJS-TAS),.
