Vision 2027 Message
Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology (TUMSAT) is promoting "the creation of organizations to develop human resources for marine-related industries in order to boost international competitiveness" as part of university reforms based on the establishment of new departments related to marine environments and marine resources and energy, as well as reform aimed at strengthening university governance. We believe that it is vital to be clear about the positioning of reform when tackling it based on a firm, medium-to-long-term concept. Therefore, in conjunction with my appointment as President of TUMSAT, we have prepared Vision 2027 with the goal of completing the 4th phase (the end of fiscal 2027), establishing a policy to share with all faculty members and university staffs. Under this vision, our objective is to set the course for TUMSAT to head in, and to be united in promoting university reform.
On April 3, 2015, I presented Vision 2027 (an outline). In order to clarify and make the specific initiatives in the outline workable, we established five study teams (education, research, internationalization, social and community partnerships, and management and operations) in the Administrative Planning Office, which is under the direct supervision of the President. The Executive Directors and Vice President were appointed as managers to oversee each team and, together with faculty members nominated by the President, they prepared action plans for each area. The recent final compilation of the action plans prepared by each of the teams is what I am presenting as Vision 2027 on October 14.
In implementing this vision, it will be vital to carry out comprehensive cost reductions and to effectively utilize the resources of the entire university. We must also strive to enhance the quality of education, research, internationalization, social and community partnership, and management and operations. Moreover, every single faculty member, university staff, student, and alumni will need to share the objective of the reforms and an awareness of the problems, and active cooperation by all people involved will be indispensable. I look forward to your warm support and encouragement.
