Guidelines for applicants for the Intensive Course of Master and Doctoral Programs in Marine Science and Technology for international students and Japanese students to be admitted in October 2016
As the only university dedicated to oceanography and related studies in Japan, TUMSAT will provide this intensive course in English aimed at conducting integrated, interdisciplinary and cutting-edge education and research training programs with the focus on "marine science technology" to cultivate the students' flexibility to changes in the time and society from a global perspective. Especially the course focuses on fostering of top specialists and researchers who can be successful internationally through practical researches and on developing human resources who can assume leadership in universities and research institutes around the world as well as in the government ministries related to fishery and marine science.
<Requirements for completion of the course> After meeting the requirements for completion of your major course:
・Master's course ①Special lectures on marine science and technology (commonly referred to as SOI) III or IV shall be a compulsory subject.
②Master's thesis shall be written in English.
・Doctoral course ①Special lectures on marine science and technology (commonly referred to as SOI) I or II shall be a compulsory subject.
②Doctoral thesis shall be written in English.
※An SOI is an intensive course held from around December to around February every year. The information of the course will be posted once its opening is determined.
１. Vacancies in the majors and the number of vacancies
A few students from all the majors in the Graduate School of Marine Science and Technology
２. Applicant eligibility
Self-supported international students and Japanese students enrolled in the Master's course or Doctoral course as regular student on October 1, 2016.
３. Application procedure
Submit the application form and your grade transcript (grade transcript of the undergraduate school if you are a student of the Master's course and grade transcript of the Master's course if you are a student of the Doctoral course) to the International Student Section of the Student Support Division (Shinagawa Campus) or the Student Support Section (Etchujima Campus) before Friday, October 24, 2016.
※ Students will be screened if applications exceed the number of vacancies.
４. About the funding of the Dean of Graduate School (transport expense support, etc. for students)
The students in this course will have advantages in screening of the beneficiaries of funding of the Dean of Graduate School (transport expense support, etc. for students).

※If there is any vacancy in the dormitories (International House, Hoyo Dormitory, Kaio Dormitory and university-rented dormitories), a self-supported international students of the Doctoral course enrolled in this course hold the possibility of renting a room.
※Self-supported international students hold the possibility of being recommended for the scholarship system 2017 for international students of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (special reserves) (the predetermined amount of scholarship: 48,000 yen/month).
※Although the course is designed for the newly enrolled students as a rule, the current students can also apply for the course in case there are vacancies left. An applicant shall submit a letter describing the motivation for application and the reason for not having applied for the course in the past years (free format) enclosed with the application form.
