About selection of the candidates with repayment exemption of the student loans for year 2016

Outline Those students who obtained a Graduate Student Category 1 loan, and have accomplished outstanding achievements on their current program of study are eligible for consideration by the Japan Student Services Organization. If the application is approved by JASSO, there will be a full or partial exemption on the student loan at the end of the loan period.
Eligible Students

Of those who obtained a Graduate Student Category 1 loan after April 1, 2004, and will terminate their loan during the academic year 2016. Completion of standard course duration will not be considered an absolute prerequisite, but eligible applicants must have accomplished outstanding achievements on their program of study by the end of the loan period. Eligible applicants must also have opened "Relay Account", a bank account that will be used to make loan repayments.

[Attention]
Those who intend to withdraw from the University/decline their student loan (including those accepting a JSPS Research Fellowship offer) must submit a notice of this change by March 2017, and their applications shall be subject to JASSO's screening process for the current academic year. Please be reminded that those students mentioned above shall not be eligible for application in the next academic year. Applicants must submit a notice of change in advance.


An applicant must have completed necessary procedures in order to open a "Relay Account" no later than the end of the application period for repayment exemption. Application cannot be accepted without a certificate of completion for the procedures.

Doctor's course (Latter period) 1 student (plan)

Application Procedures The following is a list of documents to be forwarded by the academic affairs division to the student's supervisors. The documents must be reviewed by the student's supervisors (e.g. thesis advisor, faculty chief) and submitted by the student directly to the division.
  1. Application form for Repayment Exemption for Outstanding Achievement (Form 1-1, 1-2 designated by the University)
  2. A list of academic achievements (in a form designated by the University)
  3. Application form for Repayment Exemption for Outstanding Achievement (Form 1-1, front & back, designated by JASSO)
  4. Letter of recommendation from the student's supervisor (Form 1-2 designated by JASSO)
  5. Document(s) to prove outstanding achievement described in an application for the repayent exemption

(As a general rule, documents must be copied in A4 size. Two copies must be submitted.)

Double-sided copies must be made for Forms 1 to 3.
