A Shipping Digitalization Research Agenda: Technology and Management Aspects

Abstract: In this presentation we firstly elaborate international developments as regards autonomous ship and smart shipping technology projects and platforms and overview the overarching market trends of shipping digitalization. We further discuss research aspects related to:(i)the technological foundations of the shipping digitalization process,(ii)a multitude of digitalization outcomes (applications, business models, entrepreneurial strategies), as well as (iii)the determinant factors for the innovative potential actualization, approached with a synthesized Information Systems, Innovation Management, and Maritime Business Management disciplinary mode.

Global Cargo Flow Estimation using AIS and Other Vessel Movement Database: An Example of LNG Shipping

Abstract: Detailed estimations of the global shipping pattern of any cargo are difficult because of data availability. Therefore, by using AIS (Automatic Identification System) and other vessel movement data which include the movement of every vessel of the world but no information on cargo contents, an estimation methodology of detailed cargo flow is developed and applied to the LNG shipping.
