Abstract: Ocean renewable energy developments in a changing world

Global warming continues and use of fossil fuels still increase around the world. The CO2 level in the atmosphere is now at 410 ppm, an all-time high. It is strictly necessary to change from fossil to renewable energy sources. This to avoid a quite realistic scenario of above 2°C global warming, by taking no action. The UN Sustainability goal # 7, Clean and affordable energy for all contains specific targets for 2030, including expanding renewables use. Ocean renewable energy, as represented by tidal, wave and OTEC and offshore wind, holds promise to cover a significant part of the future sustainable energy demand. A status on the development of these technologies and also energy storage will be given in the presentation, with some specific examples.
