School of Marine Technology
Let me introduce the School of Marine Technology at Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology. The School of Marine Technology educates and trains students who will lead technological advancements to support maritime transportation, which is part of the framework of the distribution network essential for Japan to be active in the global economy. It covers various academic areas including international distribution networks, energy plants, underwater robots, advanced navigation systems, and satellite positioning engineering, starting from a ship and expanding to land and the air. Students have opportunities to study these advanced technologies at the School of Marine Technology.
Currently, the School of Marine Technology consists of three departments: the Department of Maritime Systems Engineering, the Department of Marine Electronics and Mechanical Engineering, and the Department of Logistics and Information Engineering. At the Department of Maritime Systems Engineering, students deepen their knowledge of ship operation skills, information technology for communication between land and sea as well as the technologies to control such skills and technologies.
The Department of Marine Electronics and Mechanical Engineering provides students with opportunities to learn about power-driven machinery for ships, technology for various machines on-board ships as well as technology to maintain and control such devices.
Lastly, at the Department of Logistics and Information Engineering, students study logistics systems that integrate the flow of goods, information and money when goods are transferred or moved.
Moreover, as the School of Marine Technology covers a wide area of disciplines, as I have just mentioned, our graduates play active roles in various places of employment such as the manufacturing industry, systems development, logistics, trading companies and the public sector, not to mention becoming ship's officers and working in marine-related companies. Any student will be able to find a perfect job in the future to meet his or her aptitude and goals.
The small size of each department makes the faculty and the students very close, and the students take advantage of receiving thorough and conscientious guidance from the faculty even before entering school and at the time of graduation and job hunting. The staff also readily respond to requests for advice from the students.
The educational goal of the School of Marine Technology is to enable the students to acquire practical leadership skills as leaders in society. We would like them to have an accurate understanding of science. They should be equipped with a wide perspective, knowledge of culture and a rich sense of humanity. I hope they will learn critical thinking, judgement and social responsibility. And I hope they will acquire the skills to explore, investigate and solve problems while making use of profound expertise and technologies.
Why don't you spend a rewarding and meaningful college life with us at the School of Marine Technology? Thank you for your attention.
