米国のNationalSeaGrantCollegeProgramは連邦政府(NOAA)によって所管されている全米33大学プログラムのネットワーク組織です。各大学のプログラムでは沿岸海域等の環境保全と利用に関連した研究、教育、訓練、アウトリーチ活動等が展開されています。韓国においても2000年に海洋水産部によりKoreaSeaGrantProgramsとして全国7地区のプログラムが設立され、米国と同様の活動が行われています。我が国でも、海洋環境や海洋利用に関する研究と社会連携にもとづいて、国民の海洋に関する認識を高めていく必要性が指摘されています。
本シンポジウムでは米国(ハワイ、オレゴン等)、韓国(済州、京畿、江原)の各シーグラントプログラムおよびNOAAの活動と我が国の海洋教育の取り組みについての情報交換を行い、今後の国際協力のあり方や我が国におけるプログラム展開のあり方について議論します。
