【수상 개요】Outline of Award
　본학의 히비야 기노 객원 교수가 지바시의 마쿠하리 멧세에서 개최 된 일본 행성 과학 연합(Japan Geoscience Union; 다음JpGU) 2025년 대회에서 JpGU 펠로우로 선출되었습니다.JpGU펠로우는 지구행성과학에서 현저한 공적을 들거나 일본의 지구행성과학의 활동에 탁월한 공헌을 한 분들에게 그 업적을 평가하고 명예 있는 펠로우로 처우하기 위해JpGU에서 수여되는 것입니다.

　히비야 선생님은 장기 기후변화에 영향을 미치는 심층해양대순환의 해명에 불가결한 심해난류의 물리기구의 해명과 그 정량화를 연구 테마로 오랫동안 연구에 임함과 동시에 JpGU를 비롯한 많은 국제학회에서 해양난류 혼합에 관한 세션을 주최하는 등 국내외 심해 난류 연구(International Association for the Physical Sciences of the Oceans;IAPSO)の 부통령로서 국제적인 연구 네트워크의 구축과 그 발전에도 노력되고 있습니다.

　Visiting Professor Toshiyuki Hibiya has been named a JpGU Fellow at the 2025 Japan Geoscience Union (JpGU) Meeting held at Makuhari Messe in Chiba City. The JpGU Fellowship is a prestigious honor awarded to individuals who have made outstanding contribu played a pivotal role in advancing geoscience activities in Japan.

　Professor Hibiya has dedicated his career to elucidating the physical mechanisms of deep ocean mixing and quantifying their effects--an essential key to understanding the global overturning circulation that drives long-term climate variability. In addition to his scientific achievements, he has been a driving force in advancing deep ocean mixing research both in Japan and internationally, notably by organizing specialized sessions at JpGU and various international conferences.

    He currently serves as Vice-President of the International Association for the Physical Sciences of the Oceans (IAPSO), where he actively fosters the development and expansion of global research networks. This award not only affirms his status as a leading authority in deep ocean mixing, but also honors his exemplary leadership and enduring contributions to the international oceanographic community.
